Unfortunately, there is no way to play against an AI, but you can start a two-player game and play on both sides, you’ll probably win :). The graphics are correct, there is a training and a two-player mode. Some are ugly, and many of them are too slow to play decently, that’s a shame as it’s exactly the kind of game you can play when you have a few minutes to spend.Īnyway, I found that BillardGL is the best one among all of those I tried. I tried several billiard games on Raspberry Pi OS. I am not certain it will keep kids playing for long, but if you are older and miss that kind of game, you know what to do! BillardGL The developer explains on the game’s website that it was made to show young people all the cool games they missed. I don’t remember the exact name of this game, but it reminds me of one I played when I was young, probably on Atari. I didn’t have the same interest in playing Abe, but it’s a decent game if you like platform-jumping games. So, you not only need to gather more resources but also keep your village safe with more military units, walls, and defensive buildings. There are military units because there are other players run by the AI that will attack you frequently. You’ll need them to advanced to a new civilization era, unlocking new buildings and improving the existing ones. Each building will unlock new units or features. Your villagers will harvest resources around the village (wood, food, stone, etc.) to build new things (houses, farms, military buildings, etc.). You start with a small town with only the town hall and a few citizens, and you have to build everything from scratch. It’s very close to what you can find in Age of Empires. is a real-time strategy game that is pretty impressive for a free game. You can read this tutorial if you are not sure how to do this. The package name is generally the same as the game name. You can install the games with the “Add/Remove Software” tool or with apt in the command line. I didn’t bother ranking the games, as it will highly depend on what type of game you like, even if I have my favorites as you’ll see :). Most games I tried were bad, some were too heavy to run smoothly on Raspberry Pi, but I selected 10 games, across different genres, that run quite well and are worth trying. I’ve had the opportunity to try many games available and I will share a shortlist with you here. That’s why I wrote this article! Many games are available in Raspberry Pi OS repositories. ![]() But maybe you aren’t a serious gamer and use it to take a break sometimes and play a mini-game on it. Many users (including you?) initially bought it to install Retropie or an alternative and play old games on it. Kodi 14 is Helix, so.One of the most common uses on Raspberry Pi is gaming. However, I would NEVER discourage anyone from buying a RasPi! If nothing else, it's a fun project to fiddle with and maybe PlayOn's limitations aren't a problem for you.ĮDIT: According to the fine print on PlayOn's website, upgrading to XBMC Helix will fix the HD streaming issues. If your only goal is to watch Hulu and Netflix, you'd be better off going with a Chromecast or FireTV stick, which is still at the same price point as a Raspberry Pi. Although PlayOn says this is all legal, it is, in effect, circumventing DRM. Amazon adds HDCP protection to its content and PlayOn can't circumvent that (as of a year ago). PlayOn will not stream HD from Amazon Instant Video. The Kodi app is clunky (again, this info is 1+ years old). They have a 30 day refund policy and were pretty good about refunding me. It works a little like Plex, where you run a backend server on a PC (which is DRM compliant) and the software transcodes the video and streams it to the PlayOn client app in Kodi (or on your phone/tablet). If you are set on using the RasPi/Kodi approach, you can subscribe to PlayOn, which has a Kodi plugin (last time I checked, which was last year). I don't know the ins and outs of the politics/arrangements, but I think that's how it works. ![]() My guess is they get a kickback from the platform developers, which is then rolled into the price of the hardware. and use DRM protection to keep it where they want it: on only authorized platforms. They release apps on closed platforms like Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, etc. are reluctant to serve content to open source platforms like Linux/Kodi. Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, etc. It is possible to use the RPi and Kodi to watch Hulu and Netflix. ![]()
